Formula Hybrid takes place April 27 – 30, 2015 at the new Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. Founded and run by the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth University since 2006, the competition is part of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Collegiate Design Series and is regarded as the most complex and dynamic of the series.

According to the website, Formula Hybrid is an interdisciplinary design and engineering challenge for undergraduate and graduate university students. They must collaboratively design and build a formula-style electric or plug-in hybrid racecar and compete in a series of events. The educational competition emphasizes drivetrain innovation and fuel efficiency in a high-performance application. Read more of this post

Grant Trains California Auto Shop Teachers in Electric Car Assembly

Electric Auto Shop Course Brings Alternative Fuels into the Classroom

Electric Auto Shop, Inc. (www.electricautoshop.com) received a grant from the Fresno County Office of Education to enable eleven automotive instructors from throughout California to attend specialized training in electric car assembly January 26-30 in Sebastopol, California.

Costs for the five-day course were covered under the California Industrial Technology Education Project (CITEP), which is a contract held by the Fresno Regional Occupational Program from the California Department of Education. The project is responsible for program development, support, and professional development activities related to industrial technology education sectors, including transportation, while gathering and promoting examples of best practices. American River College Highlights Green Auto Shop Courses

We’re excited to read in the student newspaper published at American River College an article highlighting the green auto shop courses being offered to students in 2014-2015.  After meeting their instructors over the summer for their Electric Auto Shop training, and interacting with them on Twitter, it’s no wonder that green technologies are that latest buzz on campus. IIT Students Show Electric Race Car at Chicago Auto Show

CHICAGO (CBS) – A racing team from the Illinois Institute of Technology is trying to build something radical – a racing car that is powered by electricity, and can beat those using conventional fuels.

The auto designers of tomorrow are cutting their teeth today on the planning and construction of the vehicle, which races in two domestic events and could race overseas.

The IIT Motorsports team was interviewed at the Chicago Auto Show. LISTEN HERE

After almost 12 months of planning, designing and building, more than 2,000 of the world’s best young engineering students will descend on the home of British motorsport to battle it out and see who will be crowned Formula Student 2013 champions.

More than 100 student racing teams from 27 countries will race single seat racing cars built from scratch at Formula Student 2013, to be held at Silverstone on 4-7. Read more of this post
