Chassislab Highlights Electric Car Show in Suisun City

Chassislab is a school course where students learn math and science by build the Switch EV from Sebastopol-based Electric Auto Shop.

The Switch electric vehicle from Electric Auto Shop is available as a school course called Chassislab to teach students math and science by building a complete electric car.

From a veritable smorgasbord of leading electric car-makers–Chevrolet, Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Tesla, Fiat, Mitsubishi, Via Motors and others–it was the Switch from Electric Auto Shop that landed on the front page of the local paper.

The open-framed electric car draws a crowd wherever it goes as spectators can see how the electric drive train and mechanics of the car work. It was designed to help students learn math and science by building a complete electric car in the classroom through a course called ChassisLab.

ChassisLab is a step by step curriculum for teaching electric vehicle technology. The program is designed for grades 9th and up. North Bay Public Media KRCB Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, Windsor, Healdsburg, Sonoma, Petaluma, CloverdaleKRCB Radio interviewed Peter Oliver and Jim McGreen, designers for the Switch electric car.  “Switch” is the vehicle used in the hands-on laboratory portion of Electric Auto Shop called Chassis Lab.  It can be assembled, then reassembled, multiple times as different classes take the Electric Auto Shop assembly course each semester. Electric Auto Shop’s  Curriculum includes all the parts, textbooks and instructional videos on how it goes together.

Reporter Bruce Robinson from North Bay Public Media delved into the Switch’s three wheels, tubular steel structure, and electric drive system.
