Amarillo, TX – Young inventors and engineers had a chance to show off their skills Saturday morning at the B&W Pantex Electric Battery Car Race.
Over a month ago, a number of teams were given a kit to assemble a model car that is only powered by electric batteries.
On Saturday, the groups presented their hard work while racing those cars down a 20-meter track.”It’s in town, it’s out of town, it’s good competition. The kids really enjoy it, plus they learn stuff about engineering and science about running electric cars,” said Mike Kelley with B&W Pantex
Along with the racing competition, groups also competed for best car design and most attractive car.
The U.S. Department of Energy sponsors the annual race which offers different types of challenges for students each year.
